On Palm Sunday, April 9 we celebrate Jesus’ humble and exuberant entry into Jerusalem as the Messiah. Our celebration begins in the Chapel at 9:30 AM with hot cross buns, homemade sweets, juice and coffee. Around tables, we’ll make palm crosses and share a time of fellowship with the Deacons who are hosting this Palm Sunday breakfast. We’ll process into the sanctuary at the beginning of the first hymn.
A dramatic reading of the Palm Sunday/Passion narrative will be the focus of worship which ends on a more somber mood and in quiet upon leaving the sanctuary. Five teams of two members--youth, young adults, families and adult members—are needed to distribute fliers to our neighbors after Palm Sunday worship to join us for Holy Week and Easter Sunday services. Please sign up in the Narthex.
Lent comes to a conclusion on Maundy (or Holy) Thursday, April 13. We celebrate Jesus’ new invitation “to love one another as I have loved you” with worship in the chapel at 7 PM. Communion will be celebrated. In memory of Jesus’ disrobing down to his undergarments to wash his disciples feet, please bring an offering of new men’s t-shirts (M, L) and underwear (waist sizes 32 - 40). These undergarments will be given to the asylum seekers residing at Pilgrim-St. Luke’s El Nuevo Camino (The New Path) United Church of Christ on Richmond Ave. Garments are to be in new, closed packaging.
Great Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday, April 15 8-10 PM in Village Church Worship Center
Rev. Bryan Wandel of Anglicans of WNY is leading an Easter Vigil service in the space where Village Church meets (former gym on 3rd floor). An ancient tradition marking the turn from Christ's death and burial to resurrection, the Easter Vigil is a powerful experience of moving from darkness and fear into the light of love. All are welcome! Doors open at 7:30 PM. Questions? Contact Father Bryan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sunday, April 16 “The Lord is risen. He is risen, indeed! Alleluia!” A sunrise service at 6:15 AM in the Courtyard begins our joyful acclamation on Easter Sunday with special music with Phil Sims. Help decorate the courtyard gate with ribbons and flowers to welcome worshipers to the 11 AM sanctuary service. Special brass music will begin at 10:45 AM. The PC(USA) One Great Hour of Sharing special offering will be collected during the 11 AM service.
