Special Lenten Learning Opportunity
“YOUR GOD IS ALIVE AND WELL AND APPEARING IN POPULAR CULTURE”
February 21, 28 & March 7, 14 & 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pastor’s Study
This year during Lent we will offer our members and friends a six-week discussion group that will help us all think about how God is understood in our popular culture. Based on the ideas in a book by John Wiley Nelson entitled Your God is Alive and Well and Appearing in Popular Culture, the group will discuss various religious themes and theological ideas that are all around us in our daily culture. For example, we will talk about images of salvation in recent movies; ideas of communion in television programs; and the many religious and theological ideas in recent video games. We will discover that all around us people are being exposed to ideas about God. Often these ideas carry a decidedly Christian message. Just as often they twist away into other religions or even anti-religion themes. Paul Matson and Phil Gittings will lead the discussions and this should be a very interesting series for parents young adults, and anyone concerned about the ways people form ideas about God in our world.
